Challenge #9 ~ Electric & Hybrid Cars

Read the blog post on the April Theme – TRANSPORTATION

Car fleets are electrifying. Stirred up by Tesla Motors, manufacturers around the world increasingly produce electric cars and seek to advance Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technologies that integrate home-based solar energy systems with electric car charging stations.

You can find a list of fast, cool, electric cars here. And did you know that a Qatar-based company plans to produce electric vehicles in Qatar? A number of electric charging station already exist in Qatar and more are being added.

A full electric vehicle can save around 1.8 tonnes of CO2 emissions yearly, compared to a conventional petrol-based car with a combustion engine. A hybrid electric vehicle, or a plug-in hybrid, could save between 1.4 and 1.8 tonnes CO2 emissions yearly.

While not everyone can buy a new hybrid or electric vehicle right now, those who are in the market for a new car can consider replacing a combustion-engine with an electric car.
