Qatar Bird Project and UNESCO Middle East Projects

Introduction to Qatar Bird Project

Presented by: Dr. Elsadig Bashir

Dr. Elsadig Awad Bashir, Director of Qatar Bird Project, is the coordinator of the Hima Fund (HF), an environmental body for the conservation of birds and their habitats in the Gulf region, the Arabian Peninsula and the Middle East. The Fund was established in May last year with a donation of $1m by HE Sheikha Jawahar bint Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani, wife of the Heir Apparent HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Dr. Elsadig has served at the UNDP and FAO and has authored many studies about birds worldwide, including a children’s story about the QR1. It is fair to say that Dr. Elsadig has been the one single person who had advocated and secured that SQ becomes part of the FEC.
